Google launched its Pixel 10 family of phones, including the Pixel 10, the Pixel 10 Pro, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL, on Wednesday at the company’s Made by Google event. All of the phones are powered by the new Tensor G5 processor. The most noticeable hardware change is that Google has opted for a triple camera setup for the first time on the base Pixel 10 model. The Pro models, on the other hand, received mostly iterative updates to their processors and camera sensors.
The previous Pixel 9 featured a pair of wide and ultra-wide sensors. The Pixel 10 now adds a new telephoto lens, which enables 5x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom through Super Res Zoom. The base model includes a 48-megapixel wide sensor with Quad phase detection per pixel for faster and better focus in low light, along with a 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor.
The Pro phones are equipped with a new 50-megapixel wide sensor featuring optical stabilization and Super Res Zoom for video, supporting up to 20x zoom. Both Pro models also have a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and an increased 100x Super Res digital zoom capability.
Screen sizes for all phones remain unchanged. Both the Pixel 10 and the Pixel 10 Pro have a 6.3-inch display, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch display. Google stated all devices feature a new Actua display that allows them to reach up to 3,300 nits of brightness on the Pro models and 3,000 nits on the standard Pixel 10.
All Pixel 10 devices are powered by Google’s new Tensor G5 chip, which is coupled with the Titan M2 security chip and a new image processing unit. Google claims the new chip increases CPU performance by 34% and TPU performance by 60% over the previous generation, enabling faster and more advanced AI features.
Google introduced Gemini as the default assistant last year with the Pixel 9, alongside features like Pixel Studio for AI-powered image generation. This year, the company has upgraded Gemini Live to allow for visual overlays during video questions. This means the assistant can guide you with directions by highlighting specific parts of the screen.
Google is also debuting a new feature called Magic Cue, which can surface contextual information from across your apps. For example, if you are on a call with an airline, it can surface your flight details from your email, or retrieve your restaurant reservation details while you are chatting with a friend.
The company is adding a Gemini-powered camera coach that guides you to take better photos directly from the camera interface by making suggestions about framing and composition. Additional features include real-time translation for calls, transcripts for missed or declined calls through call screening, and Notebook LM integration with the screenshot app and recorder.
The Pixel 10 and the Pixel 10 Pro have similar prices to the previous generation, starting at $799 and $999 respectively. However, the Pixel 10 Pro XL now starts at $1,199 instead of $1,099, with its base storage increased to 256GB.
