At its Made by Google event on Wednesday, Google unveiled its new Pixel Watch 4. The smartwatch features a domed display, support for standalone satellite communication, enhanced health and fitness tracking, and more.
The 41mm Pixel Watch 4 starts at $349 for the Wi-Fi model and $449 for the LTE version. The larger 45mm version starts at $399 for Wi-Fi and $499 for LTE.
The watch features an Actua 360 display that is physically curved, delivering a 10% larger active area and an edgeless appearance with 16% smaller bezels. It also boasts a display that is 50% brighter, reaching up to 3,000 nits.
A key feature of the LTE versions is standalone emergency satellite communications. This system connects users to emergency services through a series of geo-stationary satellites to dispatch help, even when the user is completely off the grid.
Users can now simply raise their wrist to access the Gemini AI assistant, eliminating the need to press a button or say a wake word. This allows for getting help or answers while your hands are full. The watch also includes added on-device AI capabilities, such as Smart Replies that offer AI-powered responses tailored to your conversations.
Google announced the watch has 25% longer battery life than its predecessor, offering 30 hours on the 41mm model and 40 hours on the 45mm model. It also comes with an all-new fast charging dock. The Pixel Watch 4 is water-resistant up to 50 meters and, for the first time, is serviceable with a replaceable battery and display.
Under the hood, the watch is more powerful, featuring Google’s next-gen ML-powered co-processor that is 25% faster at half the power.
For health and fitness, the Pixel Watch 4 is 18% more accurate at classifying complete sleep cycles and can track time spent in each stage of sleep. A new Skin Temperature sensor helps detect changes in your well-being. The new dual-frequency GPS allows for more accurate route tracking in challenging environments like dense cities or wooded trails.
The watch can use AI to automatically detect and classify your activity if you forget to start a workout manually. New exercise options have been added, including basketball and pickleball.
Google is also introducing a personal AI health coach. This feature gives users access to fitness and sleep coaching based on metrics from their Pixel Watch, acting as a 24/7 AI-powered coach on your wrist. It offers on-demand guidance tailored to personal goals, allowing users to ask questions about their health and wellness.
A preview of this health coach will be available for users of any Fitbit device or Pixel Watch in the U.S. this October.
The Pixel Watch 4 is available for preorder now and will be on shelves starting October 9.
