Google introduced its latest entry-level Pixel smartphone on Wednesday. The new Pixel 10a is priced at $499 and launches with new AI software capabilities alongside minor hardware updates. The phone is available for preorder now, with shipments starting March 5. It comes in four color options: Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian.
The Pixel 10a features a completely flat back, meaning the camera bar blends seamlessly with the phone’s rear and lies flat on surfaces. Google highlights that the smartphone’s 6.3-inch Actua display is now 11% brighter than the Pixel 9a’s screen. It also supports faster charging and offers more than 30 hours of battery life, which can extend up to 120 hours when using the Extreme Battery Saver setting.
Powering the device is the same Tensor G4 chip found in last year’s Pixel 9a. For photography, it includes a 48MP main camera, which Google calls the best camera on any phone under $500, and a 13MP ultrawide camera.
Following their debut on the Pixel 10 series, several AI-powered camera features are now coming to the A-series. The Auto Best Take feature captures multiple frames with one shutter press and automatically selects the best version where everyone looks good in group photos. The Camera Coach feature provides step-by-step guidance on lighting and composition.
Additionally, Google is bringing Satellite SOS to the A-series for the first time. This allows users to connect with emergency services even without Wi-Fi or cellular service. As with recent Pixel phones, the Pixel 10a will receive seven years of software and security updates.
It is important to note that the Pixel 10a does not include the PixelSnap magnetic Qi charging feature found on the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
The smartphone’s arrival comes just ahead of Apple’s upcoming entry-level phone, the iPhone 17e, which is expected to cost $599. In related news, Google also announced the launch of Pixel Buds 2a in two new colors, Berry and Fog, designed to match the new Pixel 10a.
