At its Made by Google event on Wednesday, the company announced a new AI-powered personal health coach built with Gemini that is coming to Fitbit. The tech giant describes this new personal health coach as a comprehensive solution, combining the roles of a fitness trainer, sleep coach, and wellness advisor all in one.
Google plans to roll out a preview of the personal health coach as part of Fitbit Premium in October. It will be available within the redesigned app for users with the latest Fitbit trackers, Fitbit smartwatches, and Pixel Watches.
This personal health coach learns your preferences as you share them and also takes your real-time metrics from your Fitbit or Pixel Watch into account. It can also integrate data from compatible smart weight scales or glucose monitors.
With the new AI coach, users can create a custom routine by chatting about their goals, preferences, and available equipment. The AI will then build a personalized fitness plan complete with workout suggestions and targets. As you perform your workouts, the coach will dynamically adjust your plans based on real-time data and insights to help you meet your objectives.
For example, if you wake up with a low readiness score due to a night of poor sleep, the coach will suggest modifications to your weekly plan to aid your recovery. When life interrupts your schedule, you can connect with the AI coach to adjust your plans and receive advice, such as altering your workout if you sustain an injury.
In addition to fitness, the AI coach will analyze your sleep patterns and provide insights on how to improve your sleep quality over time. Google notes that new advanced algorithms will allow the AI coach to better understand a user’s sleep duration and stages. It will also help users determine how much sleep they truly need to perform at their best by creating a personalized schedule that adapts to their daily activity levels.
Users can ask the AI coach for personalized, science-backed answers to their questions. Example queries include, “Should I get an extra hour of sleep or work out tomorrow?” or “What are the best exercises for weight loss?”
This new AI coach will reside in the redesigned Fitbit app, which Google says has been reimagined with coaching and AI at its core. The updated app features more intuitive data visualization, improved syncing, a dark mode, and other enhancements.
Google also announced on Wednesday that NBA star Stephen Curry is joining as a performance advisor to provide feedback on the tech giant’s products.
