Gmail is introducing a new “Purchases” tab that provides users with a quick overview of their upcoming package deliveries. This feature, announced by Google on Thursday, will allow users to access all their purchase-related emails in a single location, including information from past orders and shipments.
Google notes that Gmail will continue to display packages arriving within 24 hours at the top of users’ inboxes. The new tab is designed to consolidate all purchase information into one convenient view.
This update expands on Gmail’s existing package tracking feature that first launched in 2022. That feature allows users to track upcoming deliveries directly from their inbox without needing to visit a carrier’s website.
Google states the new feature will be particularly useful during the holiday season. This is supported by a PwC holiday outlook which predicts that 39% of total planned holiday gift spending will occur in the five-day period between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday. The new tab is intended to help users track these numerous shipments more efficiently.
The feature begins its rollout today on mobile and web for personal Google account users around the world.
In a related update, Google also announced changes to the Promotion category in Gmail. Users will soon be able to sort promotional emails by “most relevant.” This change is designed to make it easier for people to see deal updates from the brands they care about most. Additionally, Gmail will notify users about upcoming deals and timely offers. This update will start rolling out in the coming weeks on mobile for personal Google account users.
Today’s announcement follows Gmail’s recent rollout of a feature that helps users manage their subscriptions. That tool helps declutter inboxes by allowing users to view all subscription emails in one place and easily unsubscribe from services they no longer want.
