Ford turns to Amazon to give used cars sales a boost

One year ago, the e-commerce giant Amazon began its new online car sales business with Hyundai. Now, Ford is joining the initiative with a focus on certified used vehicles. Ford announced that customers will be able to shop for, finance, and purchase certified pre-owned Ford vehicles directly through Amazon Autos.

This partnership continues to involve dealerships, which are a key revenue source for Ford. Customers can browse a participating local dealer’s inventory on Amazon’s website, complete most of the purchase paperwork online, and then schedule a time to pick up the vehicle.

Ford stated that any certified pre-owned vehicle sold by dealers on Amazon Autos includes a money-back guarantee. Customers have the option to return the vehicle within 14 days or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The Amazon Autos experience functions similarly to the rest of the Amazon shopping platform. Shoppers can search for available vehicles by model, trim, color, and features. The site also allows customers to secure financing and electronically sign paperwork.

When Amazon Autos launched last year, its focus was on new car sales, starting with Hyundai. The addition of Ford opens a different, though related, market for certified pre-owned vehicles. Ford vehicles on Amazon Autos will initially be offered in a limited number of markets, including Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas.
