Fitbit’s new Gemini-powered health coach is becoming available as a public preview. This feature, first announced in August, is rolling out to Premium subscribers in the United States on Android starting tomorrow. It will expand to iOS later this year. As the competition in artificial intelligence intensifies, Google is relying on the Gemini AI assistant to help the Fitbit platform stand out.
The new feature is called Coach. It is designed to be an all-in-one fitness trainer, sleep coach, and health and wellness advisor. At a recent event, Google demonstrated the various capabilities of Coach. It can create a custom routine based on your personal goals, preferences, and available exercise equipment.
For example, if your goal is to run longer distances without becoming winded, Coach will create a tailored fitness plan with suggestions and achievable targets. While you are working out, it can adjust your exercise plan in real time based on your feedback to keep you on track. If you get injured later in the week, the AI will modify your plan accordingly.
Other capabilities include analyzing your sleep habits. Coach provides insights into how you can improve your sleep quality over time.
While the focus is on the new AI Coach, the Fitbit app itself has also received a makeover. It now features a sleek design that is easier to navigate. The app is organized around four main tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health.
The Today tab serves as the central hub of the application. It highlights key focus metrics, weekly cardio load data, and other relevant statistics you may want to see quickly. You can manually customize which metrics are displayed.
The Fitness tab houses your workout plans and key metrics, such as your cardio goal and average weekly step count. Please note that several features, like nutrition tracking and cycle logging, are still unavailable.
The Sleep tab allows you to track your sleep patterns. A new feature provides AI Coach insights to help you enhance your sleep quality. At the bottom of this tab, a Sleep summary aggregates all the information from your previous night’s sleep, such as whether you experienced prolonged periods of wakefulness.
The Health tab is dedicated to key health metrics. It provides quick access to vital signs such as breathing rate, blood oxygen saturation, and resting heart rate, offering a comprehensive overview of your health.
To check out the Coach preview on Android, you will need an active Fitbit Premium subscription and a compatible Fitbit smartwatch, tracker, or Pixel Watch.
