Meta announced a new Facebook algorithm update on Tuesday that will showcase more Reels videos tailored to user preferences. This update gives users greater control over the videos they see, along with AI-powered search suggestions and new friend bubbles.
Users can now more easily express disinterest in videos. By selecting “Not Interested” on a Reel or flagging a comment, the recommendations engine will adapt based on this feedback. The “Save” feature has also been updated to make it simpler to collect favorite Reels and posts in one place.
These changes may help address user complaints about undesirable content. Many users have expressed frustration with Reels they find scammy, annoying, or filled with low-quality AI-generated videos.
Meta has invested heavily in AI and recently launched a short-form video feed called “Vibes,” which features only AI-generated content in the Meta AI app.
The algorithm update also aims to prioritize newer content. The company states it will present users with fifty percent more Reels that were uploaded on the same day they are scrolling.
Facebook Reels will feature AI-powered search suggestions. These suggestions will recommend queries to help users discover more content about topics they like.
In addition, new friend bubbles will appear on Reels and in the main feed. These bubbles allow users to see which posts their friends have liked. A user can tap on a bubble representing a friend’s profile picture to open a private message with them.
