DOGE has built an AI tool to slash federal regulations

The Department of Government Efficiency plans to use a new AI tool to eliminate half of the federal government’s regulatory mandates, according to The Washington Post.

A PowerPoint presentation dated July 1 reveals that the DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool will analyze approximately 200,000 federal regulations and identify those no longer required by law. The goal is to cut half of these regulations by the first anniversary of President Donald Trump’s return to office.

Work on this initiative has already begun. The presentation states that the tool has reviewed regulations at the Department of Housing and Urban Development and has been used to draft all deregulation measures at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

A White House spokesperson clarified that no single plan has been formally approved but commended the DOGE team as highly skilled professionals.

This marks the latest AI tool developed by DOGE, which was led by Elon Musk during the early months of the Trump administration. Previous tools from the department have faced criticism, including one that reportedly made errors in estimating the size of Veterans Affairs contracts.
