Disney+ is now rolling out Verts, its new short-form video feed, to users in the United States on its mobile app. First announced in January, this TikTok-like feature presents scenes and moments from movies and TV shows available on Disney+.
Modeled after the success of platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, Verts aims to boost daily engagement and reach mobile-first viewers. It is also designed to help users discover more content across the vast Disney+ catalog.
Users can access the feed through a new icon in the app’s navigation bar. By swiping through the vertical videos, they can add shows to their watchlist or start streaming the full movie or series immediately.
The company stated that with its latest streaming hits and a catalog spanning over a century of storytelling, Verts makes it easier for fans to decide what to watch next. It offers a fast and fun way to explore that catalog right from the moment the app is opened, bringing Disney’s storytelling into a modern and engaging format tailored for mobile discovery.
Initially, Verts will showcase clips from existing Disney+ content. However, the company plans to eventually include content from creators that reflects its various fandoms, along with other storytelling formats and personalized experiences.
Disney reports that early testing in August on both Disney+ and ESPN showed Verts drove additional engagement. The company credits this to an advanced algorithm that powers the Verts recommendation engine, personalizing content for each user. This investment in algorithm technology mirrors a key factor behind TikTok’s own success.
Disney+ is not the first streaming service to explore vertical video. Netflix launched a similar vertical feed last year, allowing users to scroll through clips from its original titles.
By introducing short-form video, both Disney+ and Netflix are targeting younger audiences accustomed to watching quick clips on their phones. The strategy aims to capture a user’s interest with a short video, hoping they will then continue on to watch the full show or movie that caught their attention.
