Using Cash App is already straightforward, but the platform just became even easier. This Wednesday, Block, Inc.’s payment service introduced a new feature called payment links. This tool allows users to send payments through a simple hyperlink that can be attached to texts, emails, or direct messages.
To use the feature, users go to the payment tab as usual. Instead of selecting “add recipient,” they now choose “share link.” This generates a unique link for the payment request. When the recipient clicks the link, the requested amount is already preloaded, making the transaction fast and simple.
According to Cash App, these links can be used for both recurring payments and group payments. The company developed the feature after surveying Gen-Z users and discovering that multiple communications often surround payments. The links aim to reduce any social awkwardness in those exchanges while making the payment process more direct.
Kristen Anderson, P2P & Networks Product Lead at Cash App, explained the thinking behind the update. She noted that payment links make moving money more seamless and that requesting money can feel more human and less awkward. Customers shared that in-app payment requests sometimes felt overly formal or even passive-aggressive. Payment links solve this by letting people send requests through whichever platform feels most natural, allowing them to add context, levity, or humor to the conversation.
This is one of several recent additions to Cash App. Late last year, the service debuted an AI chatbot designed to advise users on their finances. The platform has also introduced a new benefits program with a high borrowing limit.
