Twitter co-founder Biz Stone and Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp have secured new funding for their social media startup, West Co. The company launched an invite-only version of its first app, Tangle, in November. Recent reports from the Financial Times, based on comments from the founders along with regulatory filings and job listings, provide more details. The startup has reportedly raised $29 million in a seed round led by Spark Capital.
Sharp, who serves as the company’s CEO, explained that West Co was born from a pressing question. He asked what could be built to help address some of the negative impacts on the human mind and heart witnessed over the last fifteen years. Their initial answer is Tangle, an app that prompts users with a simple question: “What’s your intention for today?” Users can then share their daily goals with friends. The aim is to help people plan with intention, capture the reality of their days, and recognize the deeper patterns that shape their lives.
Stone noted to the Financial Times that the app could undergo significant changes before it launches fully to the public.
