Caller ID app Truecaller hits 500 million monthly users

Truecaller, the Sweden-based caller identification application, announced on Tuesday that it has reached a significant milestone of 500 million monthly active users globally. The company revealed that over 150 million of these users are located outside of India, which remains its largest market with more than 350 million monthly users.

The company added 50 million users in the year 2025, effectively doubling its total user base over the past five years. This growth follows an earlier announcement from April 2025, when Truecaller reported having surpassed 450 million monthly active users. The service also noted that more than 4 million people are now subscribed to its paid plans.

In a statement, Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala commented on the achievement. He stated that the increasing need for tools to navigate spam, scams, and unwanted communication is reflected in reaching 500 million users. This milestone demonstrates the scale of that need and the trust people place in Truecaller to help make communication safer. Jhunjhunwala added that the company’s commitment is to continuously strengthen the platform with smarter technology and new capabilities that protect users before, during, and after every call or message. The ultimate aim is to build a safer, more trusted communication ecosystem for everyone, with the next target set at one billion users.

In recent years, Truecaller has worked to expand its services beyond basic caller ID. It recently introduced a feature that allows a family member to act as an admin and terminate calls on behalf of other users in their group to prevent scams. The company has also been experimenting with artificial intelligence, including using AI to screen and answer calls automatically.

Further tests involve using AI to monitor disconnected calls when specific words associated with scams, such as “digital arrest,” are detected. This particular scam tactic involves perpetrators impersonating law enforcement officers to extract information or money from call recipients.

In its core market of India, Truecaller faces a new challenge from the country’s Caller Name Presentation system. This network-level system displays the name of a caller as registered with their telecom provider, potentially reducing the need for a third-party identification app.
