On Tuesday, Apple announced a new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, both powered by its latest M5 chips. The company also introduced a new family of displays.
This includes a new 27-inch Studio Display priced at $1,599 and a higher-end Studio Display XDR priced at $3,299. Both displays feature improved cameras and connectivity. They come with a 12MP Center Stage camera for better image quality and support Desk View, a feature that shows both your face and an overhead view of your desk simultaneously.
The Studio Display features a 5K Retina display with over 14 million pixels, 600 nits of brightness, and support for the P3 wide color gamut. The displays include Thunderbolt 5 ports for connecting accessories and daisy-chaining up to four displays, with a Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable included. There is also a three-microphone array and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio that offers 30% deeper bass than the previous generation.
The Studio Display XDR features a 5K Retina XDR display with a mini-LED backlight and more than 2,000 local dimming zones. It can reach up to 1000 nits of SDR brightness and 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness, with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It also supports the Adobe RGB color standard.
This display has a 120Hz refresh rate, supports Adaptive Sync, and includes DICOM medical imaging presets and a Medical Imaging Calibrator for use in medical settings. Apple notes the Medical Imaging Calibrator on macOS is pending FDA clearance and is expected to be available soon in the U.S.
While the Studio Display has a tilt-adjustable stand, the Display XDR also offers height adjustment. Both displays are available in standard or nano-texture glass options.
Preorders for the displays begin on March 4, with availability starting on March 11.
