Apple is pausing its plans to update the Vision Pro headset in order to focus on creating AI smart glasses that can compete with Meta. This information comes from a new report by Bloomberg. Although the company had been working on a more affordable and lighter version of the Vision Pro, it is now reassigning staff from that project to work on smart glasses.
According to the report, the tech giant is developing at least two different types of smart glasses. The first model, which has the internal nickname N50, will connect to an iPhone and will not have its own display. Apple reportedly aims to introduce these smart glasses as early as next year, with a release planned for 2027.
The second version of the smart glasses that the company is working on does include a display. These glasses would compete directly with the Meta Ray-Ban Display, which were announced last month. While Apple had originally planned to release this version of its smart glasses in 2028, the company is now trying to speed up its development.
Despite this recent change in strategy, Apple is behind in this market. Meta launched its first generation of smart glasses back in 2021.
