Apple CarPlay users may soon be able to converse with their favorite AI chatbot while driving. According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is currently developing ways to support AI chatbot applications within CarPlay. The information comes from anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
Apple CarPlay is an application that runs on an iPhone and connects wirelessly to a vehicle’s infotainment system. It projects a selection of apps from the user’s phone onto the car’s display. Drivers can interact with these apps, such as Apple Music, messaging, and navigation, using the Siri voice assistant.
The next-generation version, called CarPlay Ultra, expands this integration. It will include the central touchscreen and the digital dashboard directly in front of the driver, and it will allow users to control certain vehicle settings.
This planned support for AI chatbots would theoretically bring services like Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT directly into the car. This move, however, comes with the potential risk of sidelining Apple’s own Siri assistant.
