Apple hires iPhone camera app Halide’s co-founder for its design team

Sebastiaan de With, the co-founder of Lux, has joined Apple’s design team. This marks his second period working at Apple, where he previously contributed to iCloud and Find My. Lux is the company behind popular iPhone camera apps like Halide and Kino.

De With expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating he is excited to work with the very best team in the world on his favorite products.

His co-founder, Ben Sandofsky, confirmed that Lux will continue to develop the Halide app. The company recently released a public preview of the new version, Halide Mark III, which focuses on a feature called “Looks” designed to recreate the aesthetics of classic film cameras.

De With’s return to Apple occurs during a period of notable change within the company’s design division. The Liquid Glass design introduced with iOS 26 did not receive the anticipated positive reception. Additionally, Apple’s chief of user interface design, Alan Dye, left for Meta in December.

Last week, it was reported that John Ternus, who is seen as a potential successor to CEO Tim Cook, took over oversight of both hardware and software design towards the end of the previous year.
