Anthropic experienced widespread disruptions on Monday morning, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing Claude services. The outage appears to be affecting Claude.ai as well as Claude Code, though the company stated the Claude API is working as intended. Most users encountered an error when attempting to log in.
The company’s status page indicated the issues are related to Claude.ai and the login and logout paths. Anthropic has not yet detailed the cause of the outage, but confirmed it has identified an issue and is implementing a fix.
This disruption follows a significant influx of users to Claude. The chatbot app recently rose to the top of the App Store charts this weekend, overtaking its rival ChatGPT after spending a long time below the top twenty. This surge in attention seems connected to recent news surrounding the company.
U.S. President Donald Trump last week told federal agencies to stop using Anthropic products. This followed a dispute over safeguards that prevent the Department of Defense from using its AI models for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said he would designate the company as a supply-chain threat, though Anthropic says it has not yet received any formal notices.
