Amazon is enhancing its Ring smart doorbells with a suite of new features. These include new fire alerts, an app store, and a fresh set of Ring Sensors. Announced at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the new Ring Sensors can detect motion, openings, glass breakage, and smoke. They also monitor carbon monoxide levels, leaks, temperature changes, and air quality. Additionally, these sensors let you control lighting and appliances connected to your smart home network.
A new app store is being added to the Ring app, allowing users to integrate their cameras with third-party applications. This store is initially available only in the U.S., with users gaining access to browse a selection of apps in the coming weeks. While Amazon did not specify the exact types of apps, it indicated they would focus on small business operations and everyday household needs.
In response to the growing frequency of fires in drought-affected areas, Amazon has partnered with the fire monitoring app Watch Duty. This integration will show real-time updates and early warnings within the Ring app’s Neighbors section. Users can also share live updates to this section using their Ring cameras.
Notably, the newly launched devices support Amazon’s Sidewalk shared network feature. This creates a mesh network between Echo and Ring devices by sharing a small portion of your bandwidth, enabling devices to function even when they are out of direct Wi-Fi range.
Amazon is also introducing a new AI-based feature for Ring cameras. This feature learns the everyday patterns of a property and alerts users to unusual occurrences. Dubbed “AI Unusual Event Alerts,” it enables the camera to provide specific warnings when it detects a person, based on location, actions, and clothing. For subscribers to Amazon’s Virtual Security Guard service, these warnings could trigger automatic intervention.
In the past month, the company has rolled out features that use video recognition to trigger Alexa responses and send personalized notifications based on a database of fifty recognizable faces.
The company has also launched a new Ring Car Alarm with in-built GPS for vehicle monitoring.
