Amazon has begun rolling out a redesigned Fire TV mobile app to customers. The updated app transforms your smartphone into a full companion for your TV. Previously limited to functioning as a backup remote, the new version allows you to browse and discover content directly from your phone, manage your watchlist while on the go, and start playing titles on your television from the mobile app.
The company stated that the updated app turns smartphones into a second screen for finding what to watch next. This makes it simple to add a friend’s show recommendation to your watchlist even when you are away from home. Amazon notes this seamless integration between mobile and TV creates a more flexible and convenient viewing experience, helping Fire TV customers find what they want to watch quickly.
The app rollout is currently happening in the United States, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
Amazon says the app’s refreshed design matches the new Fire TV user interface launched last month. That interface was designed to focus more on content while simplifying navigation. It introduced visual elements like rounded corners, varied gradients, consistent typography, and increased spacing between content. It also provides more room for pinned apps.
The top navigation bar is now simplified into categories marked with clear icons for Movies, TV, Live TV, Sports, and News. The search button is more easily accessible to the left of the Home tab.
Within these tabs, Fire TV displays the content you are already watching alongside recommendations from your subscribed services. These are organized in rows labeled “For You.” The tabs also feature free movies, top movies and shows, and other paid content you might enjoy.
These changes to both the app and the user interface are a response to the surge in streaming content. The vast amount of available material has made it harder to track what is on each service, requiring platforms like Fire TV to act more as discovery hubs rather than just places to launch streaming apps.
