Amazon is making its color screen Kindle more affordable. Following the launch of the Kindle Colorsoft last year, the retailer has introduced a lower-cost version of the normally $279.99 device. The new model offers a $30 discount for 16GB of storage instead of 32GB, bringing the price down to $249.99. A kids edition is also now available.
The original 7-inch Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition was designed to provide a more engaging visual experience for the popular Kindle e-reader, making it ideal for browsing comics, graphic novels, or highlighting in different colors. The device features an adjustable, glare-free display with up to eight weeks of battery life. It also allows users to invert the black text and white background for a dark mode-like experience.
The new 16GB model retains the high-contrast Colorsoft display, adjustable warm light, long battery life, and fast page turns from the original. Additionally, it comes with three months of Kindle Unlimited, which provides access to over 4 million e-books. However, it does not include the auto-adjusting front light, wireless charging, or the larger storage capacity of the Signature Edition.
The Kindle Colorsoft Kids edition ships with an illustrated cover, a two-year guarantee, and a year of Amazon Kids+, which offers access to books, games, videos, and apps. Priced at $269.99, it includes features to help children practice reading, such as a vocabulary builder, Word Wise for learning new words, the OpenDyslexic font, and Bluetooth connectivity for audiobooks.
