Amazon Fire TV’s new AI feature lets you jump to scenes by describing them toAlexa+

Amazon announced on Wednesday that it is introducing a new AI-powered Fire TV feature. This feature allows viewers to jump directly to specific movie scenes on Prime Video simply by describing them to Alexa+.

The company stated that its primary mission for Fire TV is to help users find what they want to watch quickly. This new feature builds on that goal. Instead of searching manually, you can describe a movie scene as you would to a friend, and Alexa+ will navigate to that exact moment.

You can describe the scene by mentioning details like an actor’s name, a character’s name, or a memorable quote. For example, you could say, “Jump to the scene in Mamma Mia where Sophie sings ‘Honey Honey,'” or, “Jump to the scene where Deloris Jordan says ‘a shoe is just a shoe until my son steps into it.'” Other examples include, “Jump to the scene when John McClane says ‘come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs,'” and, “Jump to the card scene in Love Actually.”

Alexa+ can identify the movie you are referencing even if you do not say the title. It uses visual understanding and movie captions to analyze the characters, plot, and action in scenes to locate the specific moment you want.

This new feature is built on Amazon Bedrock, which is Amazon’s service that provides access to various generative AI models. The technology leverages several large language models, including Amazon Nova and Anthropic Claude.

Currently, the feature works with thousands of movie titles available on Prime Video, encompassing tens of thousands of indexed scenes. Amazon plans to add more movies and scenes, and will soon expand the capability to include TV shows.

It is important to note that the feature will only function if the movie is included with a Prime membership, or if you have purchased or rented it through Prime Video.
