Apple introduced the third-generation AirPods Pro at its recent event. This marks the first update to the AirPods Pro line in three years, following the Pro 2 model released in 2022. The new AirPods Pro are available for pre-order today at a cost of $249 and will arrive in stores on September 19.
A standout feature of the AirPods Pro 3 is its new heart-rate sensing capability, a first for the AirPods line. This addition operates using LED sensors to provide precise measurements, and the collected data will sync directly with Apple’s Fitness app.
The active noise cancellation has also been significantly improved. Apple states it removes twice the amount of external noise compared to the Pro 2 model. Another noteworthy upcoming feature is a live translation capability, enabled by Apple’s iOS 26 software update. This allows you to have conversations in different languages, with your iPhone translating while the phone plays one language and the AirPods handle the other.
Other notable updates include smaller, more comfortable earbuds. Apple now offers foam ear tips in five different sizes and claims these are the best-fitting AirPods ever.
Although the current model is a solid improvement, considerable speculation circulated before the event about a potential second version of the AirPods Pro 3. This rumored high-end variant is expected to have a higher price point. Its significant hardware upgrade would be an infrared camera capable of detecting hand gestures and delivering an improved spatial audio experience when used with Apple’s Vision Pro headset. The second version of the Pro 3 model is predicted to launch in 2026.
